When clients prepare their estates, they often ask me advice when writing a will. I’m a good person to consult with, since my office frequently deals with the practical side of a will. In other words, when clients pass away, their heirs approach us since we’re the ones who actually help them get hold of their inheritances.

Not a lawyer!

We don’t handle the legal side of the will, since we’re not lawyers. Rather, we come into the picture after the will has been probated. We handle the technical side of moving money from the deceased’s name into the heirs’ names. From our experience, there are a few important things to know when writing a will so that the process goes smoothly. If you (and your lawyer) don’t follow these practices, the final distribution of assets becomes more complicated, which can mean more time-consuming (and expensive) for you.

Recently, I got two virtually identical emails from people asking the same questions. I realized it was time to put pen to paper and write the answers. Since there’s not enough space here to present you all of the answers, I’ll note some of the questions and then give you a link where you can download the complete white paper for free. You might also want to pick up a copy of my book, The Inheritance Book: What you need to know about receiving and investing an inheritance from the U.S. when you live in Israel (Profile-Financial.com/books).
